Multisensory teaching and learning (VAK) with NLP
Course code: NLP-VAK
What is this course about?
The basic tenet of multisensory teaching and learning is that we are all different. What we teachers need is the knowledge and the flexibility to adapt to the different students that we have and their assorted learning styles. Some people filter information through what they see, others through what they hear and others through what they touch, smell, taste or feel. We call these VISUAL, AUDITORY and KINAESTHETIC learners. When we teachers teach only using our own preferred style, and neglect the others, chances are two-thirds of our audience will lose the message, because we are not tuning in to their channels. The idea of this course is to widen the possibilities, open our perception so that we can communi-cate with virtually anybody.
What are the course objectives?
• To identify the characteristics of the different sensory learning channels.
• To explore their usefulness in learning.
• To give the participants the opportunity to learn practical ideas for handling the mixture of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic learners found in any classroom.
• To learn how to adapt materials and activities to suit all learning styles.
• To give participants practice in tailoring their lesson plans to give balance to all sensory channels.
